Postdoctoral Position Available: Roberta Bondar Fellowship in Northern and Polar Studies Trent University

The Canadian and Native Studies program at Trent University is seeking applications for the newly created postdoctoral Roberta Bondar Fellowship in Northern and Polar Studies. This position is aimed at recent PhD recipients with research specialties in northern and polar
studies, with a focus on Canada's North. The position is for a 1-year term at a salary of $42,500 CDN, plus research allowance. The candidate will be expected to reside at the university and participate in Northern
Studies activities. Specific duties consist of teaching one course and two public lectures.

The Scholar Ship
|
The Scholar Ship is a recognized academic program aboard a transformed passenger ship hosting students on semester-long voyages around the world. Participants from diverse cultural backgrounds come together to co-create a transnational learning community that develops their intercultural competence and fosters lifelong friendships.

During a 16-week semester, students aboard The Scholar Ship also pursue numerous opportunities through our Port Program, in which they participate in academic field studies, community service, shore excursions and independent travel. The Port Program is highly integrated into the classroom curriculum, making for a sophisticated experiential learning experience.

The Scholar Ship has partnered with a select number of leading, world-class universities to collaborate on the quality oversight and accreditation of all academic offerings and standards through its Consortium of Academic Stewards. Macquarie University has been designated to award academic credit and issue academic transcripts to students who successfully complete The Scholar Ship program. Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, has a long and successful history of hosting students from around the world. Coursework delivered by Macquarie University is recognized by universities throughout the world, thus facilitating the transfer of credit to students’ home universities.

Fellowships are available through American Councils from U.S. Department of State (Title VIII) and U.S. Department of Education (Fulbright-Hays) grant support. Many colleges and universities also provide financial aid for participation in American Councils' programs. Recent participants have received substantial fellowship support from the Institute of International Education (IIE), the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, and the U.S. Department of Education Title VI (FLAS).

The American Councils Advanced Russian Language and Area Studies Program (RLASP) provides intensive Russian-language instruction in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Vladimir, Russia. The program incorporates intensive academic coursework with local excursions, host family stays, peer tutors, and internship/volunteer opportunities. A full-time resident director accompanies each group. The Eurasian Regional Language Program provides intensive instruction in the languages of Eurasia at leading institutions throughout Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine. Program features include approximately fifteen hours per week of in-class instruction in the target language, peer tutoring, housing with local families, and academic credit. Language Programs in Siberia

The Educational Center "COSMOPOLITAN" http://cosmo.qc.nov.net/), located in Novosibirsk, the largest city in Siberia, Russia, is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for the "SIBERIAN WONDERLAND" Winter Language Camp and the "LINKING THE PLANET" International  Summer Language Camp, that we are going to run in Novosibirsk region in SIBERIA in the year of 2008.

The Winter camp is run from January 3rd until January 12th, 2008, and is a unique opportunity to celebrate the coolest festive season in Siberia with lots of exciting events, and experience all the winter fun you have ever dreamed of in ten days.

The Summer camp will be taking place during the summer 2008 in four consecutive two-week sessions, with participation of local Russian children, youth and adults, as well as volunteer teachers and international students from around the globe.
Â
Both the winter and the summer programmes are a great chance for international participants to learn the Russian language and get a first-hand experience of the Russian culture and life style. They provide a unique cultural opportunity of daily interaction with the Russian children, youth and adults. The RUSSIAN COURSE is organized for overseas students and volunteer teachers and includes language studies as well as learning about the Russian culture, history and society.

We are looking for native speakers of English, German, French, Spanish and other languages, who would like to be VOLUNTEER TEACHERS of their language and/or Volunteer Creativity Workshop Coordinators at the Winter/Summer camps. No previous teaching experience is required. University students are eligible to apply as volunteer teachers/workshop coordinators. Teaching at the camp can also be considered as an INTERNSHIP with all necessary paperwork and an on-site internship supervision provided. We are looking for people who are energetic, enthusiastic, open-minded, sociable, enjoy camp experiences, are willing to share their knowledge and culture.
We also seek people worldwide (SCHOOLCHILDREN, university STUDENTS, and ADULTS) to join the Winter/Summer camp as international students of the Russian course and enjoy all the exciting activities scheduled within the program.
